The Origin of the Lakota Mastino

What the Heck is a Lakota Mastino?

The Original Lakota Mastino Bandogge's roots date back over 400 years, to the period of Spanish Exploration of the New World, specifically the Gulf Coast and southern portions of the East Coast of the United States.

On these expeditions the Spaniards were accompanied by "war dogs", believed to have been Mastiffs and “Bulldogs”. These dogs would assist in hunting, guarding the camps, and battle.

Hernando DeSoto had traveled from Florida into Louisiana, bringing with him the "War Dogs" that had made the journey to the New World. The breeds that were referred to as War Dogs were the Bandogges.

After suffering defeat in battle, DeSoto abandoned his War Dogs which were allowed to roam freely.

Some of these dogs were wounded or left behind and were captured by the Native Americans Warriors.

They bred “Wolf Killers”, and interbreed and the offspring of the various breedings were then used by different Indian tribes to protect their Chief, hunt wild game, protect horses and tribe from Wild Boar attack while hiking though the bush, and to keep warm.

The Natives around Florida and much later, the Lakota Tribe bred these Dogs, adopting them into all aspects of their daily activities... These Bandogges became known as the "Lakota Mastino." These bandogges became the companions and protectors of the Native American Warriors and personal companion to the Chiefs, and to locate and catch wild game, much in the same manner as hunters use their dogs to catch Wild Boar today.…

Lakota Mastino was created by Jonothan Shiloka, Top Breeders, Judges, and a Shaman...

Our line of Lakota Mastino was developed in the early 1990's by Jonothan Shiloka, Top Breeders, Judges, and a Shaman, creating the modern Mighty Lakota Mastino.

Shiloka used only game-bred Colby & Carver "Bulldog", working strains of the Neapolitan Mastiff, and Bandogges... focusing on using only the best and proven lines of working and  protection dogs, successfully establishing a bloodline that posessed a superb drive, steady temperament, good health and remarkable agility and trainability.

With strict breeding guidelines, rigid quality control, regular temperament and health testing, Shiloka is ensuring that the Lakota Mastino lives up to his expectations and establishes itself as one the most reliable protection  and working dog breeds in the world.

This is a large and strong dog, lighter and more agile than the modern Neo and more powerful than most bulldogges. The most important characteristic of the Lakota Mastino is its stable temperament. Driven, energetic and very intelligent, this courageous breed is highly trainable and it excells in sports such as Swimming, Search & Rescue, Fire Dog , Bike or Skateboard Pull, Dock Jumping, Agility, Mondio Ring and Personal Protection Sports.

As a property guardian, the Lakota Mastino is a calm, calculated and intuitive watchdog, but when it feels threatened and needs to protect its territory and master's family from an intruder, the Lakota Mastino becomes an intimidating and convincing guard dog, more than willing to back up its threats with swift and precise actions. The Lakota Mastino can be aggressive and on guard when needed, and the Lakota Mastino is a very stable and noble breed, making a wonderful family companion, gentle with children and…

Educate Yourself before you buy a Lakota Mastino... and Socialize your dog.

Educate Yourself before you buy a Lakota Mastino bandogge...

The Lakota Mastino is capable of giving great love and loyalty to their

owners and family, and of great devotion to the children of the family.

A Lakota Mastino can make wonderful children's pets if conditioned and

socialized properly, however... No child can control such alpha type dogs by themselves, an adult must be their leader and trainer.

Socialise your dog, it will not stop him from guarding the home, you may limit his access to visitors in the home if you prefer him to be a sharper guard in the home, if you choose to do this, make sure visitors do not 'stir ' the dog, they may stir more than they bargained for!

We make every effort to breed only sound and stable dogs, but once they leave our care, we cannot be responsible for the way the dogs are then reared and or treated, the home environment to which a dog goes is very important to how that dog will react to different situations, if you do not have the time to spend training your pup in obedience, and cannot spare him your company for a reasonable part of the day or night, you are best to get some other type of dog.

If your dog spends time outside...You must have safe fences.

If you live in an area where you must leave access to your front door see that you have your dog safely contained in the back area.

You must have a safe area to put your dog when other children come to visit.

You must never leave any child unattended with large dogs, it is even

inadvisable to leave babies alone with small dog breeds, dogs will be dogs, any dog of any breed can become overly excited by children running and yelling. this can awaken the prey drive that all dogs still posses, this is how many children come to get bitten by the family dog.

You need to teach your children to have respect for your dog, and not be

unkind or do foolish things, teach… Continue

Lakota Mastino Breeding Standard, Performance and Temperament

Breeding Standard

At Supernatural Workdogs, We have a very strict breeding standard, requiring courage, nerve and drive and a excellant family dog. All of our breedings were from working-bred lines and nothing but workingdogs were used.  If Dogs were not working quality they was not used. This is why our Lakota Mastino have the heart they have. SUPERNATURAL WORKDOGS follows a raw food diet, competitive dog training and best to best breeding regimen developed in order to maintain the working ability of the breed.

At SUPERNATURAL WORKDOGS, We breed Only best to best, increasing the quality of puppies so they have the ability and necessary drive, intelligence and hardness to achieve to reach Champion Statis. The traits that make for a good Lakota Mastino are innate characteristics that must be bred for.

At Supernatural Workdogs...We have a very strict breeding standard, requiring courage, nerve and drive.

By breeding Show Dogs instead of performance...

Many of the Show dog people and most mastiff breeders in general, breeding without regard to working drives , hip evals, or the type of structure that is functionable in the real world. What they wind up with is a dog with an unreasonable structure,no working drive and weak nerve. A dog bred for no function other than gaiting around a ring and it cannot do that off leash.

These wannabees do not understand that the weak nerve, shyness, spooky dogs with faulty temperaments that do not even make nice companion animals are created by breeding generations of dogs with no type of training or evaluation of some kind to determine drive and sound temperament, the faulty temperament just keeps getting perpetuated.…
